When using one of these Autotransformers with an inverter, you are able to produce 220 volts without having to purchase another inverter.

Xantrex T-240 Autotransformer.
Change the output of any inverter to 220 VAC for a small price!

With this transformer from Xantrex you can run 220 appliances, like a deep-well pump, from a single inverter. You simply run the output from your 110 VAC inverter to the T-240 and wire out the 220VAC from the installed 220VAC 25 amp breaker. For instance: a 2,500 watt inverter can deliver that much power at 110 VAC. By running it through a T-240 you will have two "out-of-phase" 110 VAC lines that deliver 1,250 watts each. This "out-of-phase" stuff is what 220 VAC appliances run on.

Most of the time we recommend that you take the output of your inverter to a breaker box, like normal, and then run from a breaker in the box to the T-240 so it can be turned off if you are not using a 220 VAC load. The transformer itself uses some power in the conversion and becomes a phantom load when it is powered and you are not using the 220 VAC output.

If you are using the T-240 only to power your well pump and all outer loads will run on 110 VAC then do this: Wire the power from your inverter to the breaker box. Wire from a dedicated breaker to the pressure switch for your well, then to the T-240, then to the well. This way when the pump is not running neither is the
T--240 and its phantom load.
